The annual Southern Living Taste of Charleston, which is executed by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association, will take place Sept. 27 – 29. The weekend is full of foodie events such as Taste: Sweet & Southern on Shem Creek, Taste: Iron Chef Competition and Taste: Dine Around.
Taste: Sweet & Southern on Shem Creek will take place Friday, Sept. 27 at the Cottage on the Creek on historic Shem, Creek in Mount Pleasant. The event will feature music from singer/songwriter Gigi Dover & Big Love. Attendees will also enjoy Lowcountry cuisine served by a variety of local caterers such as Duvall Catering and Cast Iron Catering. Butler Marine will be providing moonlit harbor cruises throughout the evening. Tickets are available now at CharlestonRestaurantAssociation.com for $50 or at the door the night of the event for $60.
Taste: Iron Chef Competition will take place Saturday, Sept. 28 at Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus in Downtown Charleston. The event will feature two teams of local chefs competing in a head to head battle. Each team is challenged to make three to five dishes featuring the “secret ingredient” which will be unveiled at the beginning of the competition. This year the theme is men vs. women. The teams consist of chef Drew Hedlund of Fleet Landing and Chef Brandon Buck of Middleton Place against chef Jael Allen of Mosaic and chef Eva Broyles of Eli’s Table. Mickey Bakst of Charleston Grill and Ben Berryhill of Red Drum will be emcees the event. Tickets are on sale now at CharlestonRestaurantAssocation.com for $25 for general admission and $50 for amphitheater seating.
Taste: Dine Around will be held at participating restaurants throughout the Charleston area on both Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28. The Dine Around will feature a three course menu paired with a specialty/craft beer. Participating restaurants include: 82 Queen, Another Broken Egg Café, AW Shucks, Basil- Mount Pleasant, Basil-downtown, Blu Restaurant and Bar, Burton’s Grill, Holy City Hospitality Group, Home Team BBQ, Lowcountry Bistro, Mosaic Café, Sea Island Grill at Wild Dunes Resort, Red’s Ice House, Steel City Pizza and Swamp Fox Restaurant. No tickets are required to attend this event, but reservations are recommended.
