Guide to Summer Rosé Drinking in Charleston

Sep 06, 2019

Summer may be winding down, but Charleston still has a couple more months of warmth before sweater weather kicks in. As such, let’s wrap up the beach season with a guide to summer rosé drinking in 39 Rue de Jean’s Charleston location while we still can.

To beat the summer heat, 39 Rue de Jean has a seasonal wine list exclusively for rosé. Although this sweet wine can be enjoyed during any season, it pairs especially well with the soft breezes and bountiful seafood that are prevalent in the summertime.

Sparkling Rosé

We have two kinds of sparkling rosés by the bottle: the Domaine Paul Mas, ‘Côté Mas’ for $36 and the Graham Beck for $40.

Sparkling rosés can be served as an aperitif or as a complement to a main dish and tend to go best with seafood such as salmon and shrimp, both of which are plentiful in the Lowcountry. We recommend trying Côté Mas with Rue’s Shrimp Provençal or enjoying a glass of Graham Beck with our Salmon Béarnaise.

39 Rue de Jean has a vast selection of still rosés comparative to their sparkling selection, but an in-house favorite is the Secret Identity Rosé from Iconic Wines. At just $38 per bottle, this rosé won’t break the bank, but it will provide the classic fruity and crisp flavor of summertime living in a glass.

The winemaker’s notes mention that Secret Identity has a full bodied flavor with hints of florals and pink berries. This rosé’s robust taste goes well with salads, goat cheese, grilled meats and veggies, and curry dishes.

If you want to take the winemaker’s pairing suggestions, our downtown Charleston restaurant offers several delectable options. We have a Mesclun Salade that comes with baby greens, candied nuts, aged vinaigrette, and can be served with a healthy dose of goat cheese. Another favorite is the Curry and Coriander Moules (mussels) plate.

If you need assistance selecting the perfect complement to your rosé or other drink of choice, simply ask one of our highly trained waiters and waitresses for a recommendation; all are well versed with RDJ’s wine selections. We hope to see you at Rue de Jean before the summer officially concludes. And be sure to check out our lunch and dinner menus, and make a reservation today!
