Those who have passed on are never really forgotten, so long as their memory is kept alive by those who remain among the living. Executive Chef Shane Whiddon was beloved by those at Virginia’s on King as well as many others throughout the culinary community in Charleston and we owe it to him to continue to share his passion for cooking and Southern cuisine.
To that end, Virginia’s on King has partnered with Trident Technical College to establish an annual Chef Shane Memorial Scholarship. Each year, one student attending the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College is awarded this scholarship. Trident’s Scholarship Committee selects the award recipient and provides them with up to $1,000 per semester for up to four semesters to pursue their culinary education.
Each August, a portion of the proceeds made from breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunches goes towards the Chef Shane Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Trident Technical College also has a permanently live Chef Shane Memorial Scholarship donation page available on their website. By visiting this page, donors can make a single gift or pledge to give a certain amount over as many months as they want. If they choose, donors can remain anonymous.
Donations can be completed in two other ways: Over the phone by credit card or by mailing a check.
