The Islander was recently crowned “The Best Shrimp and Grits in the Lowcountry” by Charleston Culinary Tours. Charleston Culinary Tours looked to the people of Charleston to vote for their favorite shrimp and grits in a six round bracket-style contest. The Islander went up against 63 other restaurants including Husk, Amen Street, Prohibition, The Fat Hen and Poogan’s Porch.

With the rich tradition of shrimp and grits in Charleston we take pride in serving a dish so closely tied to the culinary traditions of our city. While there are many variations of shrimp and grits, I feel that our recipe’s use of local ingredients with the addition of our own House-made Tasso Ham separates us from the other great restaurants in the competition,” exclaims Executive Chef John Whisenant of The Islander. “I take pride in our preparation of The Islander Shrimp and Grits, and I’m glad to see that our hard work is enjoyed by so many others!”
